Privacy policy.
How The Wider Shot handles information when you visit or take part.
Last updated: 21 September 2026
1. Controller
The controller responsible for data processing on this website is:
[Full legal name]
[Street and house number]
[Postcode and city]
[Country]
Email: [Email address]
2. Hosting and server logs
This website is hosted by Vercel Inc., 440 N Barranca Avenue #4133, Covina, CA 91723, USA. When you access the website, Vercel may process technical information required to deliver and secure it, including your IP address, request date and time, requested page, referrer, browser and operating system information, and diagnostic data.
This processing is necessary to provide a secure and reliable website and is based on our legitimate interests under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. Data may be processed in the United States. Vercel provides contractual safeguards for international transfers, including standard contractual clauses where applicable. Further information is available in Vercel’s privacy notice.
3. Vercel Web Analytics
We use Vercel Web Analytics to understand, in aggregate, how this website is used. Vercel Web Analytics does not use cookies. It records anonymous page view data such as the page visited, referrer, approximate location, browser, operating system and device type. Visitors are distinguished using a hash derived from the incoming request; this hash changes daily and is not used to track you across websites.
We use these statistics to improve the website. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in measuring and improving our publication under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. Do not include names, email addresses or other personal information in page URLs, query parameters or custom analytics events.
4. Creative Weather check in
If you choose to take part in the Creative Weather check in, we process your selected feelings, momentum score, influences, creative modes and any optional free text answer. We also create a random identifier in your browser so that you can update one response per week. The identifier and a copy of your current weekly response are stored in your browser’s local storage. Local storage remains on your device until you clear your browser data.
Your response and random identifier are sent to our database, hosted by [database provider and location]. We use the answers to create aggregated weekly statistics. Optional free text answers are reviewed before any are published. We do not ask for your name or contact details; however, please do not include personal or confidential information in the free text field.
Submitting the check in is voluntary. The legal basis is your consent under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR. You may withdraw consent for future processing by contacting us. Because responses are not linked to your name or email address, we may need the random identifier stored in your browser to locate a particular response. Responses are retained for [retention period]; published aggregate statistics no longer identify individual submissions.
5. Recipients
We use service providers only where needed to run the website and process the activities described above. These currently include Vercel for hosting and analytics and [database provider] for Creative Weather submissions. They process information on our behalf under appropriate data processing terms.
6. Your rights
Subject to the conditions of the GDPR, you may request access to, correction or deletion of your personal data, restriction of processing, data portability, or object to processing based on legitimate interests. Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time without affecting earlier lawful processing.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, particularly in the EU member state where you live, work, or believe an infringement occurred.
7. Changes
We may update this privacy policy when the website, our service providers or legal requirements change. The current version is always available on this page.
